Portugal
Seafaring and trade reached their bloom very quickly in Portugal. prince Enrieke arranged sea expeditions to the shores of Africa. In 1418 Madera was
discovered, in 1447 the Azores, in 1455 Senegamnbia. Bartholomeo Dias reached the Cape of Good Hope in 1486, and Vasquo da Gama reached India in 1497 -1498.
The colonization of East India began in 1520. Since 1505 the coast of Sri Lanka belonged to Portugal and since 1507 also Mozambique does. Kabral discovered
Brazil in 1500. Approved by Pope special Agreement had sliced Earth globe by meridian cut, and gave new lands on the East from Green Cape to Portugal, on the
West - to Spain. A surge of various imported goods and precious metals hit the shores of Portugal. Entire colonial trade of the world was in the hands of this
country. But there was a serious threat to predominance of Portugal on the sea and in colonies pose England and Holland. Portugal fleet among the
"Spanish Armada" was defeated by the British (the union signed between Portugal and Spain in 1578 was in force until 1640). The Netherlands pressed
positions of Portugal in East-Indian trade and in 1624 they also take their share in Brazil. In 1632 the same case is for Sri Lanka and in 1640 for all of the
Portugal colonies in East India. An intense trade with Britain develops. Portugal did not participate actively in any continental wars due to their
geographical position and a lack of military organization. At the turn of the century England, leading immense struggle on sea and in the colonies, became
Portugal's active ally. But Portugal didn't manage to retain its former power. It lost its colonies and the new sea states appeared on the scene.
